Dr. Majeed Foundation, the CSR arm of the multinational health and life sciences company, Sami-Sabinsa Group, recently awarded USD $30,000 in scholarships to 130 meritorious students from economically disadvantaged families in the State of Karnataka, India. The Dr. Majeed Foundation partnered with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, another not-for-profit organization, to identify deserving prospects pursing secondary school and higher education to receive the financial assistance.
At a brief ceremony held in Bengaluru in India this week, Dr. Anju Majeed, Sami-Sabinsa Group Executive Chairperson, together with The Akshaya Patra Foundation CEO Mr. Sridhar Venkat, distributed scholarships to the students being acknowledged for their academic achievements.
Expressing her delight, Dr. Anju Majeed, Group Executive Chairperson, Sami-Sabinsa Group, said, “Financial constraints can become a formidable barrier for deserving candidates to pursue higher education. We are fortunate to have had the chance to assist The Akshaya Patra Foundation in its efforts by contributing a total of USD $35,000 this year, funding student scholarships and supporting the organization’s mid-day meal program for students.”
In her address to the scholarship recipients Dr. Anju Majeed emphasized the value of education and urged the young minds to lend a hand to the less fortunate when they have the means.
In a statement, Mr. Shaheen Majeed, Sabinsa Global CEO & Managing Director, said, “The Dr. Majeed Foundation, since its inception, has provided academic and financial support to numerous students who otherwise, without this support, would have to drop out of school. It is gratifying to note that our efforts will give the students the opportunity for a bright future.”
In 2023, the Dr. Majeed Foundation donated USD $59,500 to The Akshaya Patra Foundation to provide nutritious meals for schoolchildren in the State. In the last 5 years, the Foundation has provided financial grants of USD $3.5 million to support numerous institutes, social organizations, students, and scholars, for the betterment of society.
In addition to scholarship support, the parent company, Sami-Sabinsa Group, in order to foster relationships between academia and industry, has been extending extensive internship opportunities and industrial trips to graduates and postgraduates from diverse streams at its research and manufacturing facilities. An astounding number of 1,300 students from various colleges in India have benefited from this over the past three years.

Mr. Amit Kumar, Head of Resource Mobilisation from Leprosy Mission, was here with us last week to recognize our philanthropic support for the organization. The Dr. Majeed Foundation, the CSR arm of Sami-Sabinsa Group, has donated Rs. 10 lakhs to the NGO recently. Mr. Devendra Kumar Gupta, CFO, Sami-Sabinsa Group, accepted the recognition plaque. From FY’17–18 till December 2023, Sami-Sabinsa Group has donated about $5.23 million for the holistic development and wellbeing of the communities surrounding its business and beyond.
Sami-Sabinsa Group, a multi-national health science company, through its philanthropic arm, the Dr. Majeed Foundation, made a generous contribution of Rs. twenty lakhs to Sparsha Trust, an NGO dedicated to the education and well-being of economically and socially disadvantaged children.
Dr. Anju Majeed, Director, Sami-Sabinsa Group, presented a cheque amounting to Rs. 20 lakhs to Ms. Rupa Mahajan, Board Member and Trustee of Sparsha Trust, early this week.
The funding will go toward supporting the NGO’s Makkala Dhama initiative, which aims to empower and protect girl students by providing quality education, enhancing their skills, and creating a safe living space. Currently, the ‘Makkala Dhama’ initiative supports 250 girl students in the state of Karnataka.

In 2022, Sami-Sabinsa through Dr. Majeed Foundation, has contributed Rs. 20 lakhs to the Sparsha Trust towards building homes for deserving children under the ‘Makala Dhama’ initiative.
With the objective of extending a helping hand to the needy families most affected by the pandemic, the team from Dr. Majeed Foundation distributed rice bags to the people of Magadi, Karnataka on September 24, 2020. A total of 5500 rice bags – each containing 10 kgs of rice were distributed. The event was organized in partnership with Kempegowda Development Committee. Mr Madhu Subramanian, Director, Sami-Sabinsa Group and Dr. H.M. Krishnamurthy, State President, Kempegowda Development Committee inaugurated the event and participated in the distribution.

The Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund was created on 28 March 2020, following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in India. The fund will be used for combating, containment and relief efforts against the coronavirus outbreak and similar pandemic like situations in the future.
Dr. Muhammed Majeed, Founder and Chairman of Sami-Sabinsa Group said, “We have always believed in supporting the less fortunate while also giving back to the society and the nation. Today, as Covid-19 pandemic poses an unprecedented challenge for the country, the contribution of ₹10 crore towards PM CARES Fund is a step towards helping combat the virus.”
In addition, Dr. Majeed Foundation, also recently contributed ₹2 crores to Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority.
Dr. Majeed Foundation has been actively supporting people in distress, by ramping up its community outreach programs to reach out to the poor and vulnerable communities. Especially to those who have been most affected by the pandemic in Bengaluru and Hyderabad and provided them with essential food items, protective equipment, hand sanitizers and health supplements.
Recently in Chokkasandra, Peenya, Bengaluru, Dr. Majeed Foundation distributed a total of 2,000 food kits – each food kit containing essential grocery items with 5 kgs of rice, 1 kg toor dal, 1 kg atta, 1 kg sugar, 1 kg salt, I ltr oil, one bath soap and a reusable face mask.
In Hyderabad, Dr. Majeed Foundation distributed a total of 1600 food kits to the residents of Turkapally village, an old age home, and various slum-dwelling units.

The teams from Sami Labs, Hyderabad unit and Dr. Majeed Foundation distributed basic food items to the poor & vulnerable communities living in the vicinity of our Hyderabad facility – namely Turkapally village, an old age home (Save All Reach All Society) and various slum dwelling units.
A total of 1600 food kits were distributed at these locations from May 21 – 24, 2020. Each kit contained essential grocery items like 5 kgs of Rice, 1 kg Toor dal, 1 kg Atta, 1 kg Salt, I ltr oil which was distributed to the needy families and the people most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Sri. K. Venugopal Reddy, Sarpanch of Turkapally Village and ward members of Turkapally Panchayat participated in the distribution.

Considering the widespread damages caused by the rains in many parts of the state, A contribution of Rs.3,00,00,000 (Rupees three crores) was made by Dr. Muhammed Majeed, Chairman and Managing Director of Sami-Sabinsa Group of companies to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund to help the people affected by the floods in the state of Kerala.
